Judas Priest – Sin After Sin

April 13, 2020

DISCLOSURE ~ This is a retro blurb from a few years back, I came across it and thought it a nice glimpse into Priest…

I opted to shop from my shelves for Record Store Day. I’ve jammed a few already, but this one needed to be shared with the class. If you’ve ever listened to Hard Rock/Metal or even flirted with it a little, maybe you felt it up that one time in Gym Class when you thought nobody was looking, you know the name Judas Priest! Yes, these guys are still going & still making quality records, but nothing beats their earlier work. They were so unique back when they first came on th e scene – they still are to me, there’s nobody quite like the Priest, NOBODY! I remember vividly going to K-Mart and looking at the album covers while I tried to pick out which AC/DC album I was gonna get next. Ya know back in the day, we or at least I bought albums based on artwork/songs and hype stickers if they had them. I can’t really recall which Priest album I picked up first, it was probably this one, Sad Wings or Stained Class – I know for fact they were my first 3 and to this day are still my favorites from the band. Where were you when you first heard the band and what were your initial thoughts? I could never put how it made me feel in words, I’d never heard anything like it. The music was razor sharp and precise, the production was as polished as it could be back in the 70’s – not much studio wizardry to be had back then. Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden & Lizzy Borden hadn’t gotten exposure quite yet, so nobody in Metal was flaunting the incredible falsetto that Rob Halford possesses. Sure there was Rush, but that wasn’t/isn’t Metal to me and while fantastic musically, those dudes weren’t conjuring up the fires of hell lyrically, nor were they ripping your face off with mind blowing twin guitar lead breaks. It was the almighty Priest who were “Delivering the Goods”. So where were ya, what were your thoughts the first time you called for the Priest and he answered?!
